9.30am HOLY COMMUNION: A warm welcome to our first Sunday service of 2019 today led by Paula.  Matthew talks to us about ‘Children, Communion and Confirmation’ Luke 18:15-17 and Matthew 11:20-30.

6.30pm NOW WORSHIP: Welcome to our monthly contemporary service this evening led by Jo.

Matthew and Jo would like to say a huge thank you for all your prayers, gifts, cards and good wishes over the Christmas season.  We wish all of you God’s blessing for a peaceful New Year.

Update from Making A Difference Fairtrade StallPauline Creevey and Jane Newey are planning to step down from leadership of the Fairtrade market stall early in 2019. We feel the stall needs fresh ideas and we are praying that someone will come forward with a passion for Fairtrade and the idea that we are a Christian light in the Market place. Traidcraft are continuing to trade in 2019 but with a reduced number of lines (still a good selection) . We also have trade accounts with Leprosy Mission and Eden and Illuminate. We have a small group of enthusiastic volunteers who are covering January and we will continue to trade with existing stock.  (Open Fridays 9-2.30 and Saturdays 10-2) Please speak to Matthew if you would like contact details of Jane or Pauline.

CONFIRMATION: Confirmation Service 27th January 11am at St Michael’s – Preparation.  It’s still not too late to consider confirmation.  Please do speak to Matthew if you are considering being confirmed. Preparation evenings for the confirmation will be on Tuesdays 8th, 15th and 22nd January from 7-8 pm at St Michael’s Lilleshall.  There will be refreshments served from 6.45 and we will finish promptly at 8.00 pm.

Please pick up a leaflet with further information  and if you would like to book our Parish Away Weekend at the Pioneer Centre near Cleobury Mortimer from the evening of Friday 17th May to the afternoon of Sunday 19th May 2019.

A MEN’S BREAKFAST takes place this Saturday (12th) 8.30am at The Whitehouse Hotel in Muxton.  Please let Matthew or Lesley know you are coming.

The next at7 at Market Drayton Methodist Church is on Sunday 13th     January when the speaker will be Lloyd Cooke, Chief Executive of the Saltbox Christian Centre in Stoke-on-Trent.

ST MICHAEL’S PCC are due to meet on Monday 14th January 7.30pm in church.

You are invited to St Michael’s to POP IN FOR COFFEE on Thursday 17th January between 10am-12noon all very welcome.

BIBLE IN 60 MINUTES: Our former curate Rich Cresswell will be offering his “Bible in 60 minutes” presentation at St Mary’s Church, Shawbury (SY4 4NH) on Saturday 19th January, at 3pm.  Come along to be amazed and inspired by the story of a loving God and his people.  Suitable for anyone from secondary school age upwards.  If you’d like to attend, it would help if you could let Rich know to allow St Mary’s to plan numbers – revrichcresswell@gmail.com

WHAT CHRISTIANS BELIEVE: The New Year is a time for pondering and  reflecting on the past and wondering what the future may have in store for us. Christianity and other faiths often suggest that they can offer answers to these challenging questions – but do they and what do Christians actually believe in? Do you or know someone who wants to explore what Christians believe and what it means to be a Christian then this short 6 week course maybe for you/them, starting on Thursday 31st January at St John’s Church  Please pick up a leaflet in church.

GOOD MORNING SUNDAY at St John’s. Breakfast from 8.15-9.15am, the Sunday papers, conversation, prayer and reflection. (Not on the 5th Sunday).

WORSHIP, LUNCH & MUSIC takes place on the First Thursday of each month and every week during Lent. We begin with a service of Communion at noon followed by lunch and a recital.  NO WLM in January.

DO YOU LIKE WALKING FOR PLEASURE? We meet at St John’s every Wednesday at 10am for a gentle walk of around an hour.  All are welcome. More details from Jo Lefroy.

PRAYERS FOR CAP: We run a regular prayer time for the CAP Debt Centre, monthly 4.30pm on the 3rd Tuesday at St John’s in the Acorn Room.

You are invited to St Michael’s to POP IN FOR COFFEE on the third      Thursday of each month between 10am-12noon all very welcome.

FORGET ME NOT FILMS: Do you like watching old musicals while enjoying a cup of tea and a slice of cake?  If so, join us usually on the 4th Thursday of each month from 9.30am – 12noon.

PATHFINDERS: School Years R-Y6. Meets every Thursday at 5pm during term

time at St Michael’s. Tea served at 5.05pm.  Come and join the fun £2 per   session includes food. Email to help with catering.

BLAZE: A mid week 11’s-14’s group. It takes place between 6.30-7:30pm on Wednesdays at St Michael’s Church. Contact the office for further details.

SUB:ZERO – cafe style youth club for School years 7+ at St John’s 4-6pm on Friday’s during term time.

FUSION: (14 – 18 year olds) will meet weekly at St John’s.  The meeting time is Sunday evenings 7.15 – 8.30pm during term time. We meet for Bible study, prayer and discussion. Call 670033 for info.

Luke 18:15-17

The little children and Jesus

15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’

Woe on unrepentant towns

20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 ‘Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.’

The Father revealed in the Son

25 At that time Jesus said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

27 ‘All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

28 ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’
