Our Services

At St Michael’s, we have a wide range of services. These include morning and evening services, traditional and contemporary services, family services and messy church. More information about each type of service is given below, and the Sundays on which they normally happen. To see a list of which services are on when this month, click here.

9.00 am Traditional Services:

Do join us for coffee after a service!

Common Worship based liturgy, good teaching, robes, choir and mainly organ music (depending on leader/preacher’s selection of hymns – some more recent but popular hymns are better on a piano – the instrument choice made by the Organist Mr Richard Fox). No separate children’s facilities – coffee /tea & biscuits available after

- 9.00am Traditional Holy Communion:
Usually first and third Sunday each month
As above but including communion at the rail in the chancel 

- 9.00am Traditional Morning Worship:
Usually second and fourth Sunday each month

 

10.00 am Contemporary Services:

Informal social gathering starting with coffee with Christian background taped music, no robes or choir but a music group singing/leading modern Christian songs usually two or three consecutively, some Common Worship based liturgy, short punchy teaching with the use of video clips, power- point,etc., occasional interactive sessions, and free prayer. Unsupervised crèche, supervised activities for 5-10s and 11-14s.

- 10.00am Contemporary Holy Communion:
First Sunday
As above but including Communion at the Chancel step. 

- 10.00am Contemporary Morning Worship:
Second Sunday

 

Family Services:

- 10.00am Messy Church:
Third Sunday once a term

Informal social gathering starting with coffee with Christian background taped music, no robes or choir but a music group singing/leading modern Christian young person friendly songs, some Common Worship based liturgy, short friendly teaching with the use of video clips, power- point,etc., occasionally interactive prayer sessions and the session ends with a second social time with various practical activities/prayer areas.

- 10.00am Family Service:
Third Sunday once a term

A mix of Contemporary Morning Service and Messy Church. Child friendly but without the activities. – coffee /tea & biscuits available after

 

5th Sundays – 9.30 am ‘Church Together’ Services:

Common Worship based liturgy, good teaching, communion at the rail in the chancel. Service with lay dress (Communion robed in Blended Holy Communion services), Choir and music depending on leader/preacher’s selection usually a mix of hymns and Christian songs – the instrument choice made by the Organist Mr Richard Fox. Unsupervised crèche, supervised activities for 5-10s and 11-14s. – coffee /tea & biscuits available after

- 9.30am ‘Church Together’ Holy Communion:
Fifth Sunday and Festivals
As above but including robed communion. 

- 9.30am ‘Church Together’ Morning Worship:
Occasionally Fifth Sunday, some Festivals and with visiting speakers

 

6.30pm Evening Services:

- 6.30pm Traditional Evening Prayer:
First Sunday each month

Book of Common Prayer Liturgy, Good teaching, Robes, Choir and usually all hymns with the organ. No separate children’s facilities

- 6.30pm Traditional Holy Communion:
Fourth Sunday each month.

Common Worship Liturgy, Good teaching, Robes, Choir and usually all hymns with the organ. Communion at the rail in the chance No separate children’s facilities
